Special Event Parking Information for Merchants
As a result of merchant's concerns about the $20 special event parking rate at the Wallace Parking Deck on home football game days, the Downtown Partnership has asked the Town of Chapel Hill to change the rates to make it more accessible for downtown visitors that want to shop and eat before and during home football games with out having to pay the full special event rate for parking. Map of downtown parking lots. Special event parking rates are only in effect three hours before kickoff and one hour after kickoff. Normal hourly rates are in effect before and after these time periods.
The Town has responded positively to the idea of restructuring the special event parking rates but with short notice for the last home football game of the season, they are not able to reprogram ticket readers in the lots. For tomorrow, Saturday, November 20th - your patrons need only tell the gate attendant at Wallace Parking Deck that they are not parking for the entire game the attendant will charge them the normal hourly rates when they leave. The game has a noon kickoff against NC State...Go Heels!
We will continue to work with the Town to adjust the special event parking rate for next football season. We are proposing that the rates would be $2 for the first hour, and $5/hour up to $20 maximum.

SHARE YOUR HOLIDAY MEAL WITH SOMEONE IN NEED
This Thanksgiving season the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC) aims to raise $21,000 to provide 840 Holiday meals to local households who are struggling in this economy. For only $25 you can provide a turkey or ham, stuffing, vegetables, bread and dessert to a local family in need. And this year for the first time the IFC is partnering with Farmer FoodShare to include some fresh, locally-grown produce such as sweet potatoes, greens and squash. Blanket Orange County Director, Jan Bolick, announces that the 7th annual blanket drive begins on November 15 and ends on December 3. This year, the goal is to collect 400 new or gently used blankets for The Interfaith Council (IFC), The Neighborhood House of Hillsborough and The Maggie Alvis Halfway House. Children undergoing cancer treatment will find comfort in new books thanks to a book drive on the UNC campus that runs now until Friday, December 10th. Several UNC departments and organizations are sponsoring the drive on behalf of the Book Fairy, an organization that donates children's books to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at UNC Hospitals. All new or gently-used books for ages one through mid-teen are welcome. The need is especially great for Spanish-language books at the preschool level and picture books or easy readers in English. Free Warhol Screening this Thursday! @ The Varsity

Chelsea Girls is perhaps the most important underground film in American history and one that is very rarely screened. Shot in 16 mm and presented in a split-screen format, with a single audio track for one side of screen, the film presents a retinue of Warhol's "superstars" in a 3-1/2 hour series of vignettes: they chat, argue, confide, shoot up, cry, and show off for the camera. Filmed at the Hotel Chelsea -- a favored New York hangout for writers, artists and bohemians - and at Warhol's Factory, the film includes appearances by Nico (of The Velvet Underground) and Edie Sedgwick. At its release, Newsweek hailed Chelsea Girls as "the Iliad of the Underground."
Free admission.
The screening of Chelsea Girls will be held at the Varsity Theatre, 123 E. Franklin Street, in downtown Chapel Hill. The film will be preceded by a 6:00 PM tour of the Ackland Art Museum's three current exhibitions of portraiture, including Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids, by Chief Curator Peter Nisbet.
"Warhol on Film: 4 Snapshots" was curated by Rich Cante, Faculty Director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Cinema at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is part of the ArtNow/CinemaNow film series, sponsored by the Ackland Art Museum in collaboration with the ScreenArts Film and Media Series and the Interdisciplinary Program in Cinema.
